Business and Development Activities,
as of June 2004
In recent years the Yuba-Sutter region has experienced growth unequaled in
its history. This growth was created by the active recruitment of
business and industry to the region. Several of the largest developments
in California’s ‘Capital’ region occurred in Sutter and Yuba counties.
For example, Bill Graham Presents, a Clear Channel Communication Company
built the 20,000 seat Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre. Additionally,
Calpine an energy generator built the first cogeneration facility to be
built in California since the late 70’s with the construction of the 500
mega-watt Green leaf energy plant in Sutter County. Also, Sysco
Distribution located and built a 350,000 sq. ft. distribution facility in
south Sutter County employing 600. This made for one of the single
largest employers to locate in the Capital region in nearly five years.
However, it is the location of the new ‘Global Hawk’ unmanned aircraft
mission to Beale Air Force Base, which creates over 1000 new jobs, that
has created all of the interest in the future of the region.
Annually, the Corporation works with its public and private partners to
host the Showcase. This event identifies and illustrates the key business
and development opportunities in the region. The Showcase illustrated
that there is over $10 billion dollars in new investment scheduled over
the next ten years in the Yuba-Sutter region. The investment includes
both public and private projects such as the development of the $200
million dollar Yuba County Motorplex which includes different racing
venues for auto racing, a hotel and convention center complex and Indian
gaming casino. Another project includes the south Sutter Industrial Park,
10,500 acre in size it will be the largest industrial area north of San
Francisco to Portland, Oregon. It is estimated to cost over $4 billion for
capital expenditures for public infrastructure and private investment for
facilities. Yet another project is the 12,000 home Plumas Lake Specific
Plan located in Yuba County just south of Marysville. This project will
house over 36,000 new residents in the region. Fremont-Rideout Health
Group plans a proposed $48 million dollar redevelopment of its hospital
facility in Yuba City. Public sector investments continue such as the
widening of US Highway 99 and California State Highway 70.
The following information identifies industrial, commercial, office and
residential development projects in the region. If you need further
information and want to know more about the daily changes, contact YSEDC
staff at 530-751-8555 and join us for our annual Economic Forecast and
Business Insights Conference the first Thursday in December or the
Showcase in June or both!
